The Mersea Island Cookery School is in a beautifully restored barn, with views across the Blackwater estuary. The cookery school offers a fully- equipped kitchen with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We have a wide selection of day courses; from essential skills classes such as pastry and baking, to seasonal entertaining and cuisine from around the world. We also offer classes for those with special dietary needs, such as vegetarian and gluten free.
Our days begins at 9:30am, when we gather round the kitchen table with coffee and something freshly baked, to discuss the day’s cooking and get to know each other. We begin cooking at 10 am. On our baking courses, the school prepare a light lunch for participants. For all other courses, when we finish the day’s cooking, we sit down together to sample what we’ve cooked. The day finishes at around 2:30, allowing plenty of time for discussion and questions.
