‘A Nightingale remembers’ by Rosemary Morris

‘A Nightingale remembers’ by Rosemary Morris

Rosemary Morris (née Long) trained as a Nightingale Nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, from 1957 to 1961 at the beginning of a period of great social change. As well as giving an insider’s view into nursing training and practice over the years, she describes her life task of adapting to change while, at the same time, retaining and building on the best values of the past.

Rosemary looks back on the days of training, just over a decade from the end of World War 2, in the Nightingale School founded by ‘national celebrity’ Florence Nightingale. The ethos of training was based on teaching and learning by practice, with a strong and high standard of theoretical input. The hours were long and the training was tough but rewarding
